Text Box: Looking after the Elderly Our senior citizens look forward to their regular afternoon at the Gang. A game of bingo, a chat, a laugh, a hot drink in the warm, is always welcome. We are also delighted with an increase in membership. The old uns’ enjoy the occasional trip in the minibuses (which usually raises a smile when they get out of The Stonehouse Gang Youth Club vans) and they always look forward to the New Year Party. Nearly a hundred are invited, many of who are collected and taken home. On arrival they receive a hot meal and then our children and young people entertain them. Entertainment involves sketches, mimes, songs and dances. The whole show is a great success with all ages working together. The funding for this project comes from successful bag packing of shopping at our local supermarket and we have had additional funds from our bid for “Bridging the Gap”. Text Box: Stoneage Stoneage evening’s in the company of staff, parents, ex-members and their families are fun and we are very appreciative of the efforts of the Chairman, Paul Pollard and his family, and the hard working committee. Their most recent donation to us was a projector, which enables is to highlight the Gang’s activities on screen. This year we have welcomed lots of new families whom we hope will support us for many a year to come.
Text Box: Starting at an early age Our Pre-School has re-located to the local Primary School. All are delighted with their new premises. They had to take on more staff to accommodate their increase in numbers and they hope to increase their provision in 2007. We wish them well. Text Box: Young people becoming aware We were successful in our bid for some funding to make a DVD on Drug Awareness with our senior membership. This is a six week accredited course, which has involved some of our disaffected senior girls and boys, highlighting the problems of Class C drugs in our area. We are delighted with its success and we have appreciated their willingness to share issues that really matter to them which have not always been pleasant. The DVD will be available for all those who took part and may be shown elsewhere as a teaching tool.
Text Box: Making decisions Two of our senior members have been asked to join the EGGS (Edgbaston Grant Giving Society). This is a grant giving body, which uses young people to allocate money to young people’s projects. They will have three days accredited training and have the chance to make a real difference to young people’s lives in the Edgbaston area. Brixham
Text Box: Girls Only “Angels with Attitude” took place in Nottingham this year. This event allows young women to be themselves and take part in usually male dominated opportunities as well as other activities. It is great fun and the young women who take part have a great time trying new and well liked activities. “Men on a Mission, later in the year, is the similar event for the young men. Text Box: Braving the Dark Once again three intrepid teams, from the Gang, took to Sutton Park braving the elements for the City Night Operation. This involves teams navigating their way around Sutton Park from 10pm to 6am, finding activity stations where they are presented tasks to attempt and gain points. At 6am the points are totalled and then they return home to bed.
Text Box: We were saddened to hear of the deaths of former General Council Member Gordon Bailey, the Founders wife Margery Webb and one-week-old Connor, son of Johann and Paul White. We wish a long and Happy retirement to Mick Cottrill and Bill Mason. The office welcomes Laura Reynolds as the new Administrative Assistant, who replaces Julie Killworth who left to work at the local school. We wish Julie well in her new career. Special birthdays this year include Paul Pollard 40, Nicola Pollard 18, Andy Pendleton 21, Mathew Shipway 21and Dan Pendleton 18.
